SolAmerica Energy procures 205 MW of First Solar’s American Solar Modules

First Solar to supply responsibly produced, advanced solar modules for US distributed generation projects

Atlanta, Georgia, February 7, 2024SolAmerica Energy, LLC has entered into an agreement to procure 205 megawatts (MW)DC of high-performance, responsibly produced Series 6 Plus and Series 7 thin film solar modules from First Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR). The deal was booked prior to the release of First Solar’s Q3 2023 earnings, and the modules are scheduled to be delivered in 2024 and 2025.

Atlanta-based SolAmerica Energy intends to deploy these modules across a portfolio of community solar projects, three commercial and industrial projects, and a portfolio of projects that will supply municipal utilities and electric cooperatives.

“We are excited to announce the expansion of our commercial relationship with First Solar and in turn, our commitment to US-developed and responsibly produced solar technology”, commented Tully Blalock, CEO, SolAmerica Energy. “These modules will be deployed in projects across the country, including the Midwest, where the majority of the modules in the agreement are manufactured. SolAmerica is all-in on buying American solar and this agreement is the centerpiece of that commitment.”

First Solar’s responsibly produced, advanced thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules set industry benchmarks for quality, durability, reliability, design, and environmental performance. The company’s solar modules have the lowest carbon and water footprint of any commercially available PV module today, and it’s the first PV manufacturer to have its product included in the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) global registry for sustainable electronics.

“First Solar is proud that SolAmerica Energy has selected our technology,” stated Dana Kennard, Director, Business Development, First Solar. “By powering their near-term pipeline with American innovated and manufactured solar, SolAmerica Energy is directly supporting US manufacturing and the domestic solar supply chain.”

First Solar is the largest solar manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere, with approximately 6 GW of operational, fully vertically integrated nameplate capacity in the US. The company has embarked on an expansion strategy that is forecast to grow its footprint to 14 GW of nameplate capacity in the US and 25 GW globally by 2026. In addition to its third Ohio factory, commissioned in 2023, First Solar anticipates further expanding its footprint in the state by 0.9 GW while building new manufacturing facilities in Alabama and Louisiana, each with an expected annual nameplate capacity of 3.5 GW.

Thirteen distribution-scale projects interconnected as part of Georgia Power’s Renewable Energy Development Initiative

ATLANTA, GA, August 4, 2020 – SolAmerica Energy and Safari Energy have successfully completed development, construction, and commissioning of thirteen solar projects in Georgia totaling 43 MW of generation capacity. SolAmerica developed, engineered, and constructed the projects, and Safari Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of PPL Corporation, will be their long-term owner and operator.

Landowners, neighbors, and local governments in eleven counties worked in collaboration with SolAmerica and Safari Energy to bring these projects to completion, securing low-cost clean energy for ratepayers, spurring economic development, and increasing the tax base.

Throughout the development and construction process, our team worked efficiently and tirelessly to surmount any hurdles we encountered to successfully develop and construct this portfolio,” said R. Stanley Allen, CEO of SolAmerica Energy. “Along the way, Safari Energy proved to be a strong partner committed to completion and operation of high-quality renewable energy projects. We look forward to working with Safari again to develop even more solar projects in Georgia.”

“SolAmerica has been an incredible partner throughout the process of getting this solar portfolio up and running in Georgia. This is a great example of Safari Energy working with a solar developer to provide project funding and to operate the renewable energy projects upon completion. In the past year alone, our solar asset acquisition business has acquired over 100 MW and we now own assets in seven states from coast to coast. We’re looking forward to working on more solar acquisitions with great partners like SolAmerica,” said David Heyman, CEO of Safari Energy.

Osaka Gas USA to invest in US solar project developer, SolAmerica Energy

Osaka Gas USA (OGUSA) has agreed to invest in SolAmerica Energy, a U.S. distributed solar energy project developer and Engineering, Procurement & Construction firm. Founded in 2009, SolAmerica Energy has developed and constructed more than 100 MW of solar projects across the eastern half of the United States.

Renewable energy represents a growing share of the U.S. power generation mix, and demand for both on-site and small utility-scale distributed solar and storage projects is expected to increase in the coming years as customers and utilities increasingly benefit from these solutions.

This marks OGUSA’s first investment in the U.S. renewable energy space and will expand OGUSA’s power portfolio in North America, further accelerating the business growth of OGUSA along with its other U.S. IPP projects as well as Freeport LNG and shale development business. With this investment, OGUSA expects to rapidly grow SolAmerica Energy’s business in both new and existing markets, with an increasing focus on solar-plus-storage, community solar, and commercial and industrial behind-the-meter solar projects to meet its growing customer demands.
